Grants

Most grant awards are based solely on financial need and, unlike loans, do not have to be repaid. Most grants require students to pass the Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) or NYS Good Academic Standing (GAS)guidelines at the end of each semester.

Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students based on financial need and serve as the foundation of federal student aid. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the school will determine eligibility. The amount you are eligible to receive depends on:

  • Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as calculated from your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Cost of attendance
  • Full-time or part-time status
  • The maximum Pell award for the 2023-2024 aid year is $7,395.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

If you've qualified for a Pell Grant, you may also qualify for SEOG, which is awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. Unlike Pell Grants, SEOG awards vary based on the other aid you receive and the availability of funds at SUNY Delhi. Filing your FAFSA early will help you be considered for this funding. Your eligibility for SEOG is based on your FAFSA's Expected Family Contribution (EFC), enrollment status, and you must be passing our federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.

NYS Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

NYS residents may be eligible for tuition assistance from the Higher Education Service Corporation (HESC).  Applicants must generally be enrolled full time (12+ credits) per semester and meet all other eligibility criteria. Eligible students enrolled in the summer may have the option to utilize Accelerated Study TAP when enrolled between 6 and 12 credits.

Visit the HESC web page for more details and eligibility requirements on the TAP program and for the Dream Act Application.

The maximum TAP Grant in 2023-2024 is $5,665.

SUNY Tuition Credit

TAP-eligible students may also be eligible to receive a SUNY Tuition Credit award to offset tuition charges not covered by TAP. This award is calculated and based on the level of a student's TAP award.

The maximum 2023-2024 SUNY Tuition Credit is $1,455.

NYS Part-Time TAP

Part-Time TAP provides tuition assistance for eligible students enrolled part time between 6 and 11 credits. Students must complete a FAFSA (if eligible) and TAP application to be considered. Students must also meet all eligibility criteria for TAP, as well as the following criteria:

  • Maintain a C average (2.0 cumulative GPA) and meet the NYS Good Academic Standing requirements.
  • Meet income eligibility limitations (income limits are the same as for TAP).
  • Note: Students who have attended college and/or received TAP prior to academic year 2006-07 are ineligible.

Visit the HESC web page for more details about Part-Time TAP.

NYS Part-Time TAP for Non-Degree Credentials

Starting in the Spring 2024 semester, the following two workshops are eligible to have the New York State Tuition Assistance Program cover part of the cost of tuition if you are economically eligible as follows and meet other requirements:

  • Independent, no dependents, single – $10,000
  • Independent, married, or with dependents – $40,000
  • Dependent, or independent students who are unmarried and have tax dependents – $80,000

Workforce Development: ServSafe Food Handler Certification Course

Workforce Development: ServSafe Manager Certification Course

If you believe you earn less than the amount listed in the criteria above, you may be able to apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) to partially cover the cost of your tuition for this program. Visit the HESC website for more eligibility information.

If you later enroll in a degree program at SUNY, these workshops will transfer for credit.

In order to be eligible, you MUST complete the FAFSA and TAP application for the appropriate aid year. Also, please note that you have a lifetime of eight full-time semesters of TAP. These will be pro-rated for the number of credits you earn, but this will use a portion of your lifetime TAP eligibility.

If you have any questions, please contact us or the Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development about your options.

NYS Aid for Part-Time Study (APTS)

APTS is a New York State grant for eligible part-time undergraduate students enrolled between 3 to 11 hours per semester. Applicants must submit:

  • Tax filers must submit a copy of their signed NYS tax return (form IT-201) for the student and spouse or parent, if applicable. For the 2023-2024 academic year, submit 2021 tax forms.

The maximum 2023-2024 APTS award per year is $2,000.

State University Supplemental Tuition Award (SUSTA)

This is a campus-based grant based on TAP eligibility and financial need. To be considered for SUSTA, you must complete the TAP application. Unlike TAP grants, SUSTA awards vary based on the other aid you receive and the availability of funds at SUNY Delhi.

The maximum 2023-2024 SUSTA award is $500 per semester ($1,000 annually).
