What is the SUNY Apprenticeship Program?
The State University of New York (SUNY), in partnership with the NewYork Department of Labor (NYSDOL), to offer Registered Apprenticeship programs, focusing on engaging employers to secure paid registered apprenticeships in high-skilled, high demand and competitive wage occupations.
Qualifying Sectors:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Healthcare
- Other sectors outside of conctruction (Culinary trades, Childcare Assistant, Golf/Groundskeeper)
Our goal at SUNY Delhi is to develop and help apprenticeship programs succeed in our region. This grant allows us to monetarily aid employers with the related instruction part of an apprenticeship. The funds can be accessed by partnering with SUNY Delih as a Related Instruction Provider to provide instruction for apprenticeships in specific fields.
SUNY Delhi's Golf Apprenticeship
- SUNY Delhi partners with the New York State Turfgrass Association to facilitate apprentice placement.
- Gain an education while working at New York States most prestigious golf courses and athletic facilities
- Gain valuable hands-on experience on the job and at SUNY Delhi during the two-week winter lab session
- Advance your career at your current place of employment
- Take online courses at your own pace

How does this program benefit your company?
You will be eligible to get the related instruction portion of an apprenticeship partly/fully covered if your company has a registered apprenticeship through the NYSDOL. We will also assist you in establishing a registered apprenticeship through NYSDOL. Funding is available for pre-apprenticeships to get interested candidates prepared to enter an apprenticeship program.

Funding Oppoertunities
SUNY Delhi can work with you and the Apprenticeship Programs at SUNY to:
- Cover a portion of Related Instruction tuition costs for Registered Apprentices from your company studying at a SUNY college.
- Reimburse a SUNY college for a portion of training for Pre-Apprentices to prepare them to work in your business.
- Cover a portion of the cost to assess Registered Apprentices’ assessment conducted by a SUNY college for hybrid and competency programs.
Additional State Tax Incentives Include:
Empire State Apprenticeship Tax Credit (ESATC)
- Provides tax incentives to certified New York State Registered Apprenticeship sponsors for hiring newly qualified Registered Apprentices.
- Offsets costs incurred by employer sponsors who employ Registered Apprentices.
Students/Apprentices

- No/little student loan debt upon graduation.

- You will receive a certificate/college degree that is transferable and recognized all across the U.S.

- Are you 18 years old or older? (no maximum age limit)
- Do you have a high school diploma or equivalent?
If you are looking to start an apprenticeship, these are the main requirements to begin your career. Of course you need to have a strong work ethic, but most importantly a willingness and desire to learn and work in the trade you choose.
After you decide that apprenticeship is right for you, you should consider the following:
- Search NY’s Job Bank. We list all apprenticeship openings in the Job Bank
- Respond to a press release. Large sponsors that hold a public recruitment will announce this in a press release
- Contact an organization in your area that trains through apprenticeship
- Find an employer in your occupational field who might be interested in training through apprenticeship
Only apprenticeship programs officially registered with the New York State Department of Labor are recognized nationally. Only these programs can offer a Certificate of Completion to the apprentice at the conclusion of the approved training.
