Merit

What is Merit?

SUNY Delhi uses Merit to celebrate student accomplishments and turn those achievements into a verified online profile for each one of our students. We also use Merit to communicate student achievements and other SUNY Delhi news to local media, elected officials, and high schools.

What is Merit and how does it benefit students?

Merit is a tool we use to publish stories about student accomplishments. Merit is designed to showcase student successes like making the Dean’s List, winning a competition or award, graduating, and more. Each student has a personal Merit page that they are able to update by adding a profile picture or other information.

SUNY Delhi's institutional Merit page and students' individual pages are automatically updated when we receive and upload information about a relevant achievement. Through Merit, we’ll also share these accomplishments with students’ hometown media outlets, local representatives, and their high schools.

How can students use their Merit pages?

Merit is a verified showcase of student accomplishments and a powerful way to show future employers the success, skills, and expertise students have gained at SUNY Delhi. Students may include their Merit page URL on their resumes and share it with potential employers or graduate admissions counselors. Students can also connect Merit to social networks like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to share accomplishments with friends and family.

What information is shared about students?

The information published through Merit is considered “directory information” and is addressed under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) “directory information” clause. Directory information, such as name, graduation year, activities, and other basic information, is not required to be private according to FERPA. Directory information is further explained on the U.S. Department of Education site.

Student Merit pages were created in compliance with our FERPA policy, but students are able to control their privacy settings, including who and how people can discover their Merit page. Learn more about configuring your Merit page privacy settings.

Can students opt out?

Yes. If a student prefers not to participate, they can opt out at any time by following the instructions at the bottom of any Merit email, sending a request to communications@delhi.edu, or by following these opt-out instructions.

Can students edit their Merit page?

SUNY Delhi creates and updates all student Merit pages; no work is required by students. However, students can customize their Merit page by adding a photo, bio, clubs/organizations, and work experience. Students can start personalizing their pages by following these steps:

  • Visit delhi.meritpages.com and enter their name in the search box.
  • Find their Merit profile and click on their name.
  • Click on the “Sign in” or “Use Email” link in the upper right corner.
  • Merit will provide instructions for next steps to customize the page.

How can I submit a student achievement for consideration?

Faculty, staff, and others can submit news about student accomplishments via an email to communications@delhi.edu. Please include student name(s), one paragraph summary of achievement, and any photos or pertinent links.

Who can I contact for more information?

Contact Riikka Olson in the Office of Marketing and Communications with any questions. Additional information can also be found at meritpages.com.
