SUNY Delhi Celebrates Grand Reopening of Farnsworth Hall

SUNY Delhi Celebrates Grand Reopening of Farnsworth Hall with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, Distinguished Guests

SUNY Delhi proudly announces the grand reopening of Farnsworth Hall after more than two years and over $35 million in renovations. SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr., Assemblyman Chris Tague, and members of the SUNY Construction Fund were among distinguished guests joining the campus community to mark the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Farnsworth, September 6.

Farnsworth Hall is the cornerstone facility for SUNY Delhi’s veterinary science technology programs. The newly transformed building boasts state-of-the-art veterinary science labs, surgical and diagnostic imaging suites, a community-facing small animal health clinic, and classrooms with infrastructure that supports technology, student collaboration, and multi-use needs. Delhi’s veterinary science technology program was the first of its kind in the nation, and the expanded facilities in Farnsworth Hall now reflect the caliber of education that these students receive.

SUNY Delhi President Mary Bonderoff said, “The reopening of Farnsworth Hall is truly a momentous occasion for SUNY Delhi. Farnsworth Hall has long been a hub of learning, research, and community service, particularly through our pioneering Veterinary Science Technology programs—the first of their kind in the nation. The renovation ties together the rich history of Delhi’s Vet Sci programs with the technology needed to meet future challenges. On behalf of the Delhi community, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the SUNY Construction Fund and Chancellor John B. King, Jr. for their support in making this renovation possible. As we cut the ribbon today, we are not just reopening a building; we are opening the door to new opportunities for Delhi students and our college community.”

SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. said, “I want to thank the SUNY Construction Fund for their work with SUNY Delhi on this extraordinary project and Governor Hochul and the legislature who fighting every day to fund SUNY capital needs and its operations with a vision for research, internships, workforce development, and upward mobility for New Yorkers. The size and scope of Farnsworth Hall will place it among the largest and best in the nation. The hands-on experience students get here from cats and dogs to primates is unmatched. The students I met today and their passion for science and animals is inspiring. We’re so very proud to celebrate the opening of this building. More than that, we’re proud to celebrate the amazing students.”

Dr. Brett Meckel, dean of the School of Veterinary Science and Professional Studies, said:
“Today has been a long time coming. We like to say, we’re the first and finest vet tech program in the country. The new Farnsworth Hall is a solid evidence of that. I’ve traveled around the country and seen lots of other vet tech programs – many of which are actually built in the Delhi model. With the completion of this renovation, we have what I’m certain is the premier vet tech facility in the nation, and the world.”

Assemblyman Chris Tague said,
“Farnsworth Hall has a lasting legacy here at SUNY Delhi, and it’s been instrumental as host to the nation’s leading veterinary science program. Delhi’s ability to adapt and provide new and exciting opportunities and tools for students is a testament to its excellence, and Farnsworth Hall is the cornerstone to it all.  It’s a worthwhile investment, and will continue to prepare the next generation of veterinarians.”

The renovation focused on energy efficiency and advanced building systems. Farnsworth Hall now features a hybrid ground source heat pump system, updated HVAC systems with energy recovery, specialized ventilation for animal care areas, and a modern all-LED lighting system.

SUNY Delhi’s Veterinary Science Technology program continues to set the standard for veterinary education nationwide. With the expanded facilities in Farnsworth Hall, the program is poised to maintain its leadership in preparing the next generation of veterinary professionals. Faculty and program leaders have also leveraged their strong industry reputation to introduce new programs designed to meet the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students. The ribbon-cutting ceremony represents a major step forward for SUNY Delhi and the local community, as Farnsworth Hall reopens as a cornerstone of education, research, and service.
