Frequently Asked Questions

How do online courses work?

Students in online courses can expect the same academic rigor as on-campus courses. Typically, there is a mix of coursework (readings, activities, quizzes, discussions, and assignments) that must be completed in a certain order and submitted to the online space by set due dates. Often there is online discussion and engagement with other students in the class. Depending on the class, there may be a set time to meet virtually as a group.

How do I register for online courses?

Your advisor will assist you in registering for classes. They will contact you directly once you've been accepted and your deposit has been paid. Your advisor will go over a degree plan with you that will include what courses you will need to take in order to graduate.

Where do I access online courses?

If you are registered for an online course, you will access and engage in it via Online Delhi using your Delhi login. This online learning space uses D2L’s Brightspace and is part of the SUNY Digital Learning Environment (DLE).

What is the course schedule? Can I work at my own pace?

Classes start and end on scheduled dates listed in the Academic Calendar. Your instructor will provide a more specific course schedule in the syllabus. Generally, a course is structured for you to complete certain activities per week and does not allow for self-paced completion.

Do I have to log in at certain times?

At a minimum, you should log in periodically throughout each week of the course. Some courses may have specific activities (such as a timed quiz or group meeting) that may require logging in at a certain time. If that is needed, the instructor will let you know in advance.

How do I get credit for participating in class?

Each course will outline how participation is calculated into your grade. This might include posting in discussion forums or interacting with peers. In general though, you are an active student if you are logging in, accessing materials, and completing coursework.

If I want to take a particular course on-campus instead of online, can I do that at another college and transfer the credit?

Provided that the course is transferable and pertains to your degree, you can choose to take a course through another college campus or online, and transfer it into your online program. It is important to first check with your academic advisor before registering for a course at another college to be sure the course will transfer appropriately. Note: Students are required to take a certain percentage of their credits at SUNY Delhi (50% for Associate and graduate programs; 25% for Bachelor's degree programs). More information is available on Transfer Credit & Articulations and Transfer Equivalences

What computer devices and skills do I need for online learning?

You should have access to a computer or laptop and reliable internet. A tablet or mobile device may be useful for some activities but is not sufficient for all coursework. Some courses may require using a webcam for video engagement.

You should be able to complete the following digital tasks comfortably:

  • Send and receive emails
  • Send and open email attachments
  • Use Microsoft Office (available to Delhi students for FREE here)
  • Function in online library databases
  • Perform basic Internet research
  • Familiar with multiple Internet browsers, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox

Will I be required to come to campus? Can I optionally come to campus?

You are not required to come to campus as part of online coursework. Online students are welcome to visit campus and attend on-campus graduation.

Where do I get my textbooks?

Textbooks can be purchased online through Barnes and Noble Campus Bookstore .

How do I get in contact with my professor?

You can contact your professor via email or another means they may provide in the online course.

What do I do if I have questions or need help?

If you have questions about a course or assignments, you will contact your instructor. If you have technical issues with Online Delhi, you will contact the Help Desk.
