Take your love of sports, recreation, and the outdoors to the next level!
Open the door to success with one of five different majors that will prepare you for a rewarding
career in the recreation, sports management, or athletic education industries. The
recreation profession is a growing field as more people seek physical activity in
state-of-the-art facilities or the great outdoors.
Located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, SUNY Delhi provides the ideal
setting to turn your passion into your career!
- Coursework features hands-on projects in managing athletic facilities, teaching people of all ages how to enjoy sports and adventure activities, fitness training and safety, and more.
- Facilities include an 18-hole golf course, a dome, our Outdoor Education Center (a 50-acre park on our valley campus), NCAA Division III athletic fields and courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, outdoor track, state-of-the-art fitness center, and easy access to the Catskill and Adirondack parks.
- Earn certifications like New York State Coaching, personal training, and American Red Cross First Aid/CPR, Life Guard, and Water Safety Instructor along with your degree.
- Internships and volunteer opportunities allow you to put hands-on learning into action through work and community projects.
- Class sizes are small to establish a strong connection with classmates and teachers for a supportive learning environment.
SPORTS & RECREATION PROGRAMS
Culinary Programs
This two-year degree offers two tracks:
- The Sports Management track allows you to work directly with SUNY Delhi’s NCAA Division III varsity athletic teams and the college’s intramural sports program. You’ll learn the rules of different sports, prepare playing fields and facilities, and earn your NYS Coaching Certificate.
- The Recreation Management track focuses more on learning about recreation programming,
park management, and non-competitive sports.
Requirements to become a certified Recreational Associate with the National Recreation and Park Association are included in the curriculum.

This two-year degree is made for people who want their classroom to be the great outdoors.
- Coursework and internships prepare you for work as an outfitter/guide (paddling, hiking, skiing, camping, zipline, etc), adventure program coordinator, or any job in the ecotourism industry.
- Seamless transfer into our bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Sports Facilities Management.
- Learn more about the Associate in Applied Science in Adventure Recreation.
This two-year degree prepares you to work in planning and management of natural resources in the recreation industry. Graduates have gone on to careers as park rangers, outdoor educators, and environmental conservation officers.
- The college-owned park, the Outdoor Education Center, is a 50-acre outdoor lab where you can learn about management of natural resources and park maintenance.

This two-year degree starts you on the path to becoming a certified physical education teacher in New York State. We have a dual-admission agreement with the bachelor’s degree in P.E. at SUNY Cortland where you can finish your certification.
- Curriculum includes your introductory health and wellness and physical education/recreation coursework along with fulfilling your SUNY general education requirements.
- You can enter the physical education and recreation industries with your associate's degree, transfer into a four-year physical education program, or seamlessly transfer into our bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Sports Facilities Management.

This four-year degree prepares you for work with professional sports teams, arenas and athletic facilities, or state/national parks and outdoor education programs.
- Learn facility management software and understand athletic buildings’ design and development in order to collaborate on projects with architects and engineers.
- Graduates have pursued various careers in the industry including managers of public parks, college athletic administrators, and gym owners/managers.
