NYS Teachers Retirement System (NYSTRS)
Pension & Retirement Education Program (PREP) Seminars
NYSTRS has the flexibility to offer both phone and video consultations, to meet your needs. After you schedule a consultation, a personalized benefit estimate will be prepared for you. The estimate could be uploaded to your MyNYSTRS account or, if you prefer, mailed to you via US mail. It is strongly encouraged that you create a MyNYSTRS account, if you do not already have one, prior to your consultation meeting. During the consultation, you will learn about NYSTRS benefits, review your personalized estimate, and discuss your benefit options at retirement. To schedule a consultation, visit New York State Teachers Retirement System NYSTRS.org (using your NYSTRS account) OR call 800-348-7298 ext. 6100.
NYSTRS PREP is designed to help NYSTRS members of all ages with careful financial and retirement planning. PREP sessions have been recorded, and the videos and presentation slides may be viewed anytime. Topics include: your pension, loans, vesting, death benefits, financial planning, social security, estate planning, and more! Please visit the NYS Pension and Retirement Education Program website for more information.

After You Retire
- After you retire, NYS starts calculating the amount of your final retirement benefit. This means you won't receive your full pension right away. For the first few months of your retirement, your first payments will be advance payments - but what are they?
