Students Study on a Ropes Course

Interested in a career in sports or recreation? This flexible 2-year degree allows you to tailor your course of study to suit your career goal in the areas of sports, recreation, and physical education, outside of teaching. Whether you dream of coaching, working in the front office for a professional team, or managing a recreation facility, our program provides you with the skills and experience to succeed. Earn your New York State Coaching Certificate along with your degree. At the same time, you will also complete the educational requirements to become certified as a Recreational Associate with the National Recreation and Park Association.

  • Algebra Regents: 73
  • Science Regents (recommended): 73
  • Transfer GPA: 2.3

Students can also continue their education and transfer to a bachelor's degree program.

  • Construction and installation of low-ropes course elements for Margaretville Central School
  • Trail and construction projects at the SUNY Delhi Outdoor Education Center
  • Adirondack tea bench construction
  • Environmental restoration projects
  • Design and construction of a trail system for the proposed Catskill Water Discovery Center
  • Design and development of outdoor programming for the Delaware County ARC including: snowshoeing, maple sugaring, wilderness survival skills, aquatic ecology, hiking, and orienteering
  • Development and implementation of a community maple sugaring day at the Outdoor Education Center



What will I study?

In close consultation with your advisor, you will be offered the opportunity to tailor your program of study to suit your career aspirations. Whether this aspiration is coaching, working in the front office of a professional team, or in facility management, the Recreation and Sports Management program will allow you the flexibility to engage in a broad range of coursework related to each of these endeavors. Coursework covers a wide range of subjects, from coaching and leadership skills, to park and recreation facility management, to philosophy of athletics, and more.
