Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)

"The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is the unit of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities in the Middle States region, which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several locations internationally.

The Commission is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. It examines each institution as a whole, rather than specific programs within institutions." -Middle States Home Page

Accreditation Process

On a ten year cycle, every institution under Middle States must be re-accredited. SUNY Delhi's re-accreditation cycle is during the x1/x2 academic year, every ten years (ex. 2001/2002, 2011/2012, ....). Progress reports are submitted five years in between the re-accreditation cycle (ex. 2006/2007, 2016/2017, ....).

As part of the re-accreditation process, every institution completes a self-study of their college, and illustrates how the college complies with the Middle States standards. The team that completes the self-study is a representative group of faculty and staff from the college, compiling an objective self-study report of the entire college. The self-study process usually begins 2-3 years before the college's re-accreditation year. The self-study report becomes a part of the overall Middle States evaluation of the college during their re-accreditation year. A team of external peers evaluate the college on behalf of Middle States based on the self-study report and a three-day visit to the campus, and makes commendations and recommendations for the college. Middle States then decides, based on the team evaluation, the accreditation status of the college.
