Faculty and Staff Opportunities

Mentoring Program

Are you interested in making a difference in someone’s life?

Scholars participating in the Men of Distinction Academy program are connected with faculty and staff in an effort to foster meaningful and supportive relationships. This is a wonderful opportunity for educators to enhance their multicultural competencies and to offer their talents and gifts to others.

Mentors provide answers and feedback - drawing on their unique perspectives and ideas about how to approach situations. In return, mentees are given the opportunity to think about topics they may never have thought about before, such as saving money. As a mentor, you will play a key role in assisting our men of color while they navigate their academic, personal, and social experiences. You’ll also play a key role in their professional and personal development, as they transition and adjust to campus life here at SUNY Delhi.

All mentors are expected to meet the following:

  • Personal Contact: A minimum of three (3) contacts per month (email/phone) with at least two (2) in-person contacts per month
  • Confidentiality: All efforts will be made to protect personal and confidential or privileged information concerning mentees. Mentors will abide by applicable state and federal laws.
  • Highly Encouraged Programs and Events: Large Group Luncheons and end of semester mentor/mentee banquet
  • Mentor training
  • Mentors are asked to commit an entire academic year.
  • Collaborate whenever possible with other mentors.

If you would like to be a Mentor to a Scholar in the Men of Distinction Academy program, please complete the Mentor Interest Form. Your answers will provide a more detailed profile of you, your interests and skills, and assist with matching you to a Scholar.
